Game of Thrones Team Building in Girona for 135 People
A bespoke live-action team building experience through Girona’s historic streets
When a client wanted something genuinely different for 135 participants in Girona, we created a completely bespoke team building experience combining Game of Thrones locations, live actors, an investigation and a fictional crime involving a missing HP prototype.
Rather than adapting one of our existing activities, we created the entire story specifically for the event.
The story
The premise was that a production company had been filming a commercial in Girona for a new HP Engage Point-of-Sale prototype.
The fictional advert combined the medieval world of Game of Thrones with modern technology. Two warriors begin fighting before stopping to question why they can’t resolve their differences like civilized human beings. They walk into a completely modern café, where their order is taken using the new HP point-of-sale system.
There was just one problem.
The morning after filming, the café had apparently been burgled and the valuable HP prototype had disappeared.
It was up to our 135 participants to discover what had really happened.
135 investigators let loose in Girona
Participants divided into teams and received their own investigation packs, containing information about the suspects, maps, note sheets and everything they needed to conduct their investigation.
Teams were given different starting points so that the 135 participants naturally spread out across Girona rather than following the same route.
Waiting for them around the city were eight live characters connected with the previous day’s film shoot:
the Director, Producer, two Warriors, Camera Person, two Baristas and Makeup Artist.
Each had their own version of what had happened the previous evening. Some information was useful. Some raised more questions.
The teams had to interview the characters, compare their stories and gradually piece together the events of the night before.
Girona becomes the stage
The extraordinary streets of Girona weren’t simply a backdrop to the activity. The city became part of the game.
Several encounters took place at genuine Game of Thrones filming locations.
At Girona Cathedral, teams encountered the two warriors and camera operator, creating opportunities for sword fights, photographs and plenty of interaction with the characters. The Director and Producer were discovered at Plaça dels Jurats, another location featured in the series.
Elsewhere, participants tracked down the baristas at Plaça de la Independència and found the Makeup Artist shopping around Rambla de la Llibertat.
Gradually, alibis could be checked, contradictions emerged and the mystery began to unravel.
More than a treasure hunt
What made this event particularly successful was the combination of teamwork, theatre, storytelling and the city itself.
Rather than simply following clues from one location to another, participants had to talk to real characters, listen carefully, share information with their teammates and decide which details mattered.
And because the entire experience was created around the client’s event and product, it felt like their game, rather than an off-the-shelf activity with a company logo added afterwards.
That’s something we love doing at Blue Wolf.
We can take a city, a group and a client’s brief and build an experience around them, from relatively simple treasure hunts and challenges to fully bespoke live-action adventures involving professional characters, custom storylines and spectacular locations.
For this event, 135 people spent an afternoon investigating a missing HP prototype through the medieval streets of Girona, surrounded by warriors and suspects in locations millions of people had already seen on Game of Thrones.
Not a bad day at the office.
